Our rock club is once again participating in the Stratton Elementary School Christmas Craft Fair, Saturday, Dec. 7th.
We will have a spin wheel for the kids – 25 cents per spin, and you win whatever pretty rock the arrow lands on.
We will also be selling beautiful Quartz Crystal plates and clusters, as well as some other collector’s minerals. Very reasonable prices – $1 to $20. Sizes range from silver dollar size to garden ornament size. Lots of palm sized specimens.
Great collector’s items, stocking stuffers and unique Christmas gifts. If you’re a rockhound, come just to hangout and talk rocks with us!
9 to 3 on Saturday at the Stratton Elementary school’s gym; 1201 W 5th St, Newport, WA 99156

2013 Guided Field Trips – Sign Up
Field Trips – Geology Professor, Andy Buddington, with SCC, has agreed to lead our club members on a guided car-pool field trip through the Pend Oreille Valley on
Saturday, August 3rd. He will guide us by explaining the geology that we pass on a two way radio, as well as passing out mile by mile written guides. He is also leading
a similar trip in Stevens County on July 20th. In order for us to be able to stop at a few of the sites that he will point out to us, we must keep the number of vehicles
down to as few as possible. If you would like to go on either of these field trips, and are willing to car-pool, please contact Pat Weeks as soon as possible. Andy needs
to know how many vehicles will be in our caravan in order to decide where he can safely take us, and he needs to know how many field guides to print up. Pat will tell
you where and when to meet up for the trips.

The Pend Oreille Rock and Gem Club meets the first Wednesday of each month at 7 P.M. at 508 Quail Loop, Newport WA.
We are a casual group of rock loving people who enjoy going on field trips and sharing our collections with one another. You are welcome to join us and bring a mineral specimen and share what you know about it – or find out what it is!
At each monthly meeting, we have a silent auction (often with a starting bid of just 25 cents), raffle off some nice specimens, hold a Show and Tell segment where we can all bring in whatever specimens we find interesting to share, and often show a short video related to something a rockhound might be interested in.
We also have an active and growing youth program, called Future Rockhounds, where members under the age of 18 are lead in projects where they can earn merit badges for learning about fossils, rocks, minerals and rockhounding. The youth meet at the same time as the adults, but in a separate area during the meetings. After their projects are completed, they join the adults for snacks, Show and Tell, the silent auction and raffle.
Membership is currently only $5 a year. Members receive a newsletter each month and have access to our library with materials available to loan.
For more information, please call the secretary, Pat, at 509-447-zero, three, nine, one.
